‘Happy Gilmore 2’ Trailer: Adam Sandler Tees Off Again After Nearly 30 Years

More than 28 years after “Happy Gilmore” first blasted golf balls into the hearts of comedy fans everywhere, Adam Sandler is finally making his long-awaited return to the green. The trailer for “Happy Gilmore 2” has officially arrived, promising a return to the high-octane golf chaos, offbeat humor, and heart that made the 1996 original a cult classic.

Incredibly, this marks the first true sequel to any of Sandler’s most beloved comedies—a rare feat considering the enduring popularity of titles like “Billy Madison,” “The Waterboy,” and “Big Daddy.” Despite dozens of iconic characters across his career, Sandler has largely avoided sequels. That changes now with “Happy Gilmore 2,” nearly three decades after the original helped launch his movie stardom.

Directed by Kyle Newacheck and co-written by Sandler and longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy, the film sees Happy Gilmore return to the course for one more unlikely shot at glory. While the official logline has not been revealed, it’s clearly about Gilmore taking one more shot at hole-in-one glory.

“Happy Gilmore 2” also continues Sandler’s long-running partnership with Netflix, where he’s made his creative home for nearly a decade. From “Murder Mystery” to “Hustle” and “You Are So Not Invited to My Bat Mitzvah,” the streamer has become the go-to destination for the full range of Sandler’s projects.

That family element extends on-screen as well. Sandler’s daughters, Sadie and Sunny Sandler, who recently starred in the aforementioned Bat Mitzvah-themed hit, return in supporting roles here, further cementing the blending of Sandler’s work and personal life.

The film features returning favorites Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald, with McDonald again stepping into the endlessly punchable Shooter McGavin role. Also joining the cast are Ben Stiller, Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio (Bad Bunny), Conor Sherry, Ethan Cutkosky, Margaret Qualley, and Benny Safdie, along with appearances from real-life sports personalities like Travis Kelce, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Paige Spiranac.

Notably absent is Carl Weathers, who played fan-favorite Chubbs Peterson in the original film. Weathers passed away in early 2024, and while he will be missed, surely the film will honor his legacy somehow.

After nearly three decades, Sandler is finally revisiting one of his most iconic roles.

“Happy Gilmore 2” will be released globally on Netflix on July 25, 2025. Watch the new trailer unveiled at Tudum today.
